The traditional exploitation of grasslands presents serious problems that have a direct impact on their profitability.

The average production in adult holm oaks its about 250 Kgs per hectare with huge interannual alterations. Oaks’ natural regeneration takes 20 years to bear fruit regularly.
The fungus of Phytophthora produces the disease commonly known as “la seca” that kills trees and spreads through every holm oak tree little by little (grassland).

Low density in holm oaks grasslands as a consequence of old trees, diseases, and very tough ecological and environmental conditions.

Meristec, as a solution to the low and irregular production of acorns, came up with the development and implementation of an intensive crops of holm oaks and other Mediterranean Quercus with selected trees because of their great production. They would be new innovative crops with high productive capacity, with interesting implications in income increases for both the farmer and the owner of pastures. Densification with the best adult plants of the pasture previously selected and propagated on Phytophtora resistant clonal patterns is Meristec’s proposal to increase the current low density in the pastures.
